Getting Efficient Vitamin D in the Fall

Fall is basically here and that means the autumn leaves start to change into red, yellow, and brown and fall off the trees. Night time arrives faster which means the shorter days, there’s less sunlight, and colder weather. Kissing summer goodbye is hard enough but also finding the right amount of vitamin D your body needs  during this time is also a struggle. A recent study by BetterYou found that 19 per cent of British adults have low levels of vitamin D, and this is particularly problematic in autumn and winter.  Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is key for the maintenance of minerals such as calcium and phosphorus. Your main source of vitamin D is the sun – ultraviolet B radiation from sunlight can be  synthesised by vitamin D3 , the active form of Vitamin D, when exposed on the skin. Studies have shown that we need around 10 minutes of sunshine a day to get your Vitamin D fix, but of course, everyone is different and your levels will not only depend on the season
